Associate Professor Jin Tee is a complex spine surgeon and neurosurgeon. His clinical practice is in complex spine surgery and neurosurgery. He provides minimally invasive (MIS) and open surgical solutions for all spinal pathologies- degenerative spinal disorders including pars defect repair, spinal deformity including scoliosis, kyphosis, cranio-cervical junction abnormalities, spinal infections, spine trauma and spine tumours. A/Prof Jin Tee also specialises in neurotrauma, metastatic brain disease, hydrocephalus and the geriatric population.
A/Prof Jin Tee is heavily involved in clinical research. He concentrates on clinical outcomes of spine surgery in the fields of spine trauma, spine oncology, spine infections and degenerative spine disorders. He is involved in international registry studies to improve the quality of spine care. He is a research member of the AO Spine International Trauma And Oncology Study Groups. He is Head of Spine and Neurotrauma Research at the National Trauma Research Institute (NTRI), the Clinical Lead of The Spine Oncological Service at the Alfred, a steering committee member of the Alfred Trauma Registry and the Alfred Trauma Committee. He is also medical advisor of the Monash University’s Bionic Eye project. The Bionic Eye project aims to develop an implantable brain device that allows return of sight for patients with cortical vision impairment. He is also one of the primary investigators for the AO Spine International Multi-Centre Study for the Management of Thoracolumbar Junctional Injuries. On an international front, A/Prof Jin Tee represents Australasia as an Associate Member of the AOSpine International Trauma Knowledge Forum, a 17-strong international forum consisting of individuals who innovate, create, and lead the formation of International Standards that guide the treatment of Spine Trauma globally. He is also a global partner of the AOSpine International RECODE-DCM (Degenerative Cervical Myelopathy) initiative.
A/Prof Tee is an author or co-author of 46 papers published in peer-reviewed journals and 10 book chapters. At present, he is lead or co-lead in 18 research projects.
A/Prof Tee is a post graduate of Monash University and a graduate of the University of Melbourne. He was trained in neurosurgery at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, the Alfred Hospital, St. Vincent's Hospital and the Royal Children's Hospital. He also completed the AO Spine North American Complex Spine Surgery Fellowship at the world-renowned Vancouver Spine Institute, Vancouver General Hospital and the University of British Columbia.
At the Alfred Hospital, the state-service Level 1 Trauma Centre, A/Prof Tee is a member of the neurosurgery department and the complex spine surgery service and he treats all spinal pathologies in particular trauma and cancer. He also provides treatment to patients with neurosurgery and spine surgery conditions at the Epworth Hospital (Richmond, Eastern), St. Vincent's Private Hospital (Fitzroy), Peninsula Private and Public Hospital (Frankston) and John Fawkner Private Hospital (Coburg). He consults regionally at Castlemaine Health (Castlemaine) and in Mildura.
